The Arab Street Department is responsible for making sure all 120 miles of City streets are safe and well-maintained, along with a wide range of other services done throughout the City of Arab.
These include, but are not limited to, paving of City streets, maintenance and upkeep of City rights-of-way, demolition and clearing of abated and
dilapidated structures, ensuring proper drainage, collection of debris and non-household garbage items, and the mowing of medians and ditches.
Note: Please call us to report missing or damaged street signs, potholes, fallen trees and limbs, and drainage concerns. The crew will respond as quickly as possible.
Snow & Ice Removal
If ice and snow should occur, the first priority is the streets around the police precinct, and fire & rescue stations. These are then followed by City streets.
Residential streets and drives will be cleared as soon as possible. Sand is used on City streets, while a salt and sand mixture is used on the sidewalks.
Sanitation & Brush
The Arab Street Department brush trucks rotate each week to a different section within the Arab City Limits, & they need your help in order to maintain a consistent route schedule.
Old appliances, furniture, carpet, leaves, tree limbs & brush clippings, are all considered solid waste goods and may be collected one time per month, so check the Brush Pick-up Schedule & Map to determine which week is yours, & please…
DO NOT PLACE BRUSH & DEBRIS
ON THE ROADSIDE
UNTIL IT IS YOUR WEEK TO BE PICKED UP.
This is not only an eye-sore for your neighbors, but it makes our community, as a whole, look unclean & unappealing to visitors & potential businesses.
Leaf pick-up begins each year in November and will be collected on the same schedule as brush. Leaves and grass clippings should not be bagged. Please DO NOT place leaves on top of brush.
Leaves may be placed in a pile near the roadway, AWAY FROM all other roadside waste. Place leaves AWAY FROM storm drains & culverts. This prevents clogging of ditches & drainage areas.
Televisions, Computer Monitors, Microwaves & Tires
There are set surcharges that must be paid at City Hall prior to the collection of televisions, computer monitors, microwaves & tires. Please call the Street Department to schedule a time for us to come to your property to determine the amount of debris and the number of trucks needed. The total cost to be paid prior to pick-up will be determined at that time.
