Police Department
Mission Statement
To sponsor the safety and security of all people in our City by providing responsive and professional police services with compassion and concern.
About Us
The Arab Police Department is a progressively active police department involved in public service, the prevention of crime, and Community Policing. We are comprised of 28 APOST Certified Officers, meaning they all have completed the Alabama
Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission (APOST) training. We also have 12 non-certified support staff, including Dispatchers, a Jail Warden, Jailers, Secretaries, and an Animal Control Officer
The Patrol Division is our largest division and these additional units or divisions reflect more specialized training; Crisis Response Unit, Narcotics Suppression Team, Digital Crime Lab, Patrol Division, Investigation Division, Warrant Division, D.A.R.E, School Resource Officers, Animal Control, Motor Carrier Division, Traffic Homicide Division, Administration Division, and an Aviation Unit.
Our Crisis Response Unit (CRU) was originally formed in early 1990. We have progressed to a Regional Unit that includes team members from the Guntersville Police Department and the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office. Our CRU trains monthly and must go above and beyond the normal training required by APOST. The Jack Banister Training Facility is
headquarters for a majority of Arab’s Officer training and CSU training. It is also a regional training facility utilized by several other Law Enforcement Agencies.
The Narcotics Suppression Team and the Digital Crime Lab are staffed and operated by officers from within the Police Department who have received extensive training from Local, State and Federal entities. Both are proactive in their respective duties to combat the use and sell of drugs, and to reduce online and digital criminal activity.
The Aviation Unit consists of an FAA* Certified UAV Pilot with extensive training and advanced certification, and two (2) Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) consisting of advanced FLIR®** capabilities and payload capacities. These UAVs are used for Search and
Rescue, Motor Vehicle Crash Reconstruction, Event-security and Crowd-monitoring, Article Recovery, and Surveillance. Aerial assistance is also provided for many other City projects because having a “birds-eye view” is extremely beneficial when marketing the City, and to economic and industrial growth and development endeavors.
Our Officers and Staff at the Arab Police Department are committed to making the City of Arab and surrounding communities a safer place to live, work, shop, play, start a business, and raise a family. We require completion of the very best Officer training, and we work tirelessly to provide the best service and protection possible for our citizens.
