The Arab Park and Recreation Department has a great responsibility in serving the citizens of Arab with quality and exciting recreational facilities.

We have many different facilities and activities to offer the residents year-around enjoyment.

Park Grounds

The City of Arab has an approximate 100 acre park. This park includes a lighted walking trail and a concrete sidewalk that circles the entire park grounds. We have ten baseball and softballTrail Pavilion fields, seven tennis courts, pee-wee football field, municipal swimming pool, multi purpose arena, and the Arab Historical Village. There is a Community Center, four pavilions and a gazebo which can be rented through the Recreation Department. A pond, complete with pier, has been built on the park property for limited fishing.

Thompson Eidson Park

The Thompson Eidson Park is a 27 acre complex located adjacent to the new Arab Fire Department Station and Emergency Operations Center. This complex includes four lighted soccer fields, almost a mile-long walking trail in a natural setting, and a 400 meter running track.

ARAB CITY PARK MULTI-PURPOSE ARENA

This arena is host to our Annual Park and Recreation Horse Show, which has been named "Best One Night Show", by the Alabama Walking Horse Association for numerous years. Over the course of the last few years this show has been a huge success. Previous shows have drawn in up to three hundred participant entries from all over the Southeastern United States. Concessions, featuring southern-style barbecue, will be available. Each year, the show becomes bigger and even better, so be sure to mark your calendar for the second Saturday in July, and make plans to join the fun.

Recreation Center

The Recreation Center includes a basketball gymnasium, two racquetball courts, a banquet room, stage, kitchen and a conference room. The Recreation Center office is responsible for the rental of any rooms at the Recreation Center or the Community Senior Center, and the pavilions and gazebo at the park. ARAB CITY SWIMMING POOL



The city pool is open to the public on the following schedule:

Monday - Saturday:

12:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Sunday:

1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

The following fees apply to use of the pool:

General Admission:

$ 2.00

Individual Season Pass:

$ 60.00

Family (immediate) Season Pass:

$125.00

The pool is also available for rent in the evenings for pool parties.

Arab Swim Team


The Arab Swim Team is open to all residents of the Arab area ages 6 - 18. All participants must be able to swim the length of the pool. The Arab Swim Team participates in both District and State Swim Meets. Swim practice will begin in May.

The Park & Recreation Department offers American Red Cross Swim Lessons. Registration for these lessons begins in late April.

Dixie Youth Baseball

Youth aged 5 -15 participate in the Arab Dixie Baseball Program. During the previous seasons, up to 500 players participated in the Arab Baseball Program. Registration begins in February, with games beginning in April. The Arab Baseball Program is open to all residents of the Arab area. For more information please call 586-6793.

NOTICE: Players for DYB must turn 5 years old before May 1 to participate.

Arab Girls Softball

Girls from ages 9 -16 years can participate in Girls Fast Pitch Softball. Registration for Fast Pitch Season will begin in early February with games beginning in mid-April. The Arab Girls Softball Program is open to all girls in the Arab Area. For more information, call 586-6793.

NOTICE: Players for Girls Softball Must turn 9 years old before June 1 to participate.

Youth Basketball Program

The City of Arab Recreation Department offers organized sports activities to the youth of Arab. The basketball program is open to all youth ages 7 - 14. (Must be 7 years old prior to September 1). We have teams in the following age groups: 7- 8, (boys and girls); (9-10) (11-12) (13-14) boys; (9-10) (11-12) girls. Registration will begin in mid-September. Arab Youth Soccer

Youth soccer is the fastest growing sport in the Arab area. The Arab Park and Recreation Department, in cooperation with the Arab Soccer Association, offers AYSO fall leagues for ages 4 1/2 to 19. Registration will begin in early May and practice will begin in late July. Games will begin in September.

Get Ready for Arab Arts Camp


Arts Camp is coming in Arab and youngsters can find all kinds of fun
in drawing, painting, pottery, and dance, just to name a few.


Arts Camp is held in July, and will be daily (Monday - Friday) at the Arab Recreation Center
from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.  For a complete schedule and registration dates, contact the Recreation Center at (256) 586-6793.


Registration Fee: $95.00


Children who will be in grades 1 - 8 in the fall semester are eligible to enroll.
Anyone wishing to enroll can contact the Recreation center office at (256) 586-6793.


Each child should bring a lunch, snack or snack money, swim suit, and towel each day.
